Endodontist Joseph A. Zerella, DMD, MDS

Bridgeport native, Joseph Zerella, has been practicing endodontics in his boutique, state of the art office in downtown Fairfield since 2003.  He specializes in pulpal and periapical diagnosis, root canal therapy, trauma management, and surgical/non-surgical root canal retreatment.   Dr. Zerella uses the latest advancements and techniques in his field, including digital radiography, cone beam computed tomography, operating microscopes and ultrasonics.  His extensive training with the operating microscope allows for an ultra-conservative technique and an optimal success rate.

Dr. Zerella graduated magna cum laude and New England Scholar from The University of Connecticut in 1995.   He was admitted to the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine and received his doctorate degree in 1999.  Dr. Zerella graduated at the top of his class and while in dental school, he was inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society, reserved for the top  graduating students.  Dr. Zerella was also inducted into Sigma Xi, a scientific honor society.  He also received the ADA/DENTSPLY Student Clinician Award, American Academy of Oral Medicine Award, and The Quintessence Award for Research Achievement.

 In 2000, Dr. Zerella completed a General Practice Residency at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT.  He then finished his post-doctoral residency in endodontics at The University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine and received a Clinical Certificate in Endodontics and a Master’s Degree in Dental Science.

Since 2008, his peers have voted Dr. Zerella as Connecticut Magazine ‘Top Dentists’, Fairfield Magazine ‘Top Dentists’, and Westport Magazine ‘Top Dentists’.

When not practicing endodontics, Dr. Zerella enjoys music, golf, fishing, traveling, cooking, and coaching baseball.
